The Healthier People and Futures service creates the environment for improving people’s health and takes action to reduce health inequalities. This means understanding and tackling the big issues that affect people’s health and life chances, such as giving children the best start in life or helping people to make healthy changes such as quitting smoking and adapting to climate change, to give just a few examples.
This team is at the heart of this work, responsible for directly commissioning services such as the countywide sexual health, drug and alcohol and healthy behaviours service and 0-19 children and families service. We are all about working with and influencing other provider and partner organisations to make a lasting difference.
We play an important role in improving community safety, working with voluntary sector organisations, police and others to address important issues such as supporting those affected by domestic violence.
We also manage programmes to support refugee, asylum seeker and migrant communities.
We are a varied team, including Commissioners, who manage contracts with delivery organisations, Project Officers and enabling functions such as finance, contract management, communications and business support.
We’re also the biggest team in the Public Health and Communities directorate, and pride ourselves on our links with other organisations to influence and jointly address the major issues affecting Suffolk people’s health.
The role of the team:
- To commission important services to improve health at all ages.
- To manage and lead projects on a variety of subjects, from increasing digital inclusion to helping people to make lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, managing weight and being more physically active.
- To provide an enabling function for the whole public health team, and partners that we work with, such as financial, digital and business support.
The Healthier People and Futures team has something for everyone! Whether you’re interested in becoming a Project Officer or Project Manager, help others to deliver by working in the Business Support team, have an interest in finance or contracts, communications and social media, it’s a varied team.
