We are committed to supporting carers through recruitment and employment.

We at Suffolk County Council recognise the need for a supportive environment for unpaid carers and those with caring responsibilities. We seek to be an exemplar employer, supporting the welfare of employees who are carers, and enabling them to find the right work/life balance for them and to be able to have time off work to enable their caring responsibilities.

  • Achieved the Carer Confident status for building a supportive and inclusive workplace for staff who are carers.
  • Implemented a new Carers Policy.
  • Paid Carers Leave for all carers within the organisation of up to 1-week per year, with the ability to take longer periods of unpaid leave or career breaks.
  • Promoting a family-friendly, flexible working culture.
  • We have a carers staff network that informs some of our main carer-focused decisions and actions.
  • Access to mental health first aiders, stress toolkits and Occupational Health to relieve some of the stress and pressures that carers may face.
